Stuffing

24 slices of fresh bread, sliced into cubes

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

3/4 teaspoon  pepper

3 teaspoons sage

2 1/4 teaspoons thyme

6 tablespoons parsley

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup minced onion

1/4 cup butter

1/3 cup boiling water

Combine bread crumbs, salt, pepper, sage, thyme, and parsley.  Mix thoroughly.  Melt shortening, add onion and saute until golden (do not burn).  Add bread and saute until bread is lightly browned, stirring constantly from the bottom.  Melt butter in boiling water and pour over crumbs, tossing lightly.  Add more water if it's too dry.  This should fill an 8 pound turkey--I usually just keep making batches of stuffing until I'm satisfied.  Enjoy!
